The Carnival is to return for 2008 |

After the success of the 2007, the Dearne Carnival will be back, the events location is still yet to be decided but it will be held on Saturday 5th July, 2008, between 10.00am and 4.00pm The carnival group are busy organising things but need your help, it is the Barnsley Dearne Carnival and therefore residents from the whole area are welcome to help make it the best yet. If you are a local community group or are business trader and would like a stall then please get in touch with Greta Kingston on 01709 894082 and help us to make the Dearne carnival 2008 the best yet. |

OFSTED visit the roundabout |

The Roundabout Childcare Centre was visited by OFSTED recently and have been given a satisfactory mark in all areas.
They have given some suggestions of improvements and the staff are working towards these. |

A 3 week taster course on climate change is being held starting on Monday 7th January, 2008 from 7pm-9pm at the Renaissance Centre, Station Road, Bolton-upon-Dearne.
The course is being run by WEA in association with the Neighbourhood Learning Net as part of the Academy Active Citizenship Programme and is free to attend.

Weatherman Visits the Playhouse |

On Tuesday 27th November, BBC’s Look North’s weatherman, Paul Hudson came to the Dearne Playhouse Theatre, Goldthorpe.
The event was attended by about 40 people who listened to him talk about climate change and why Barnsley flooded in the summer, the audience then had the chance to ask him questions.
The event was held by Bansley Neighbourhood Learning Net and Yorkshire Forward. |

Barnsley Dearne gets 3 community health workers |

Barnsley Dearne Community Partnership, Fit for the Future and Barnsley Primary Care Trust have employed four Community Health Trainers to work in the Barnsley Dearne area. The three, Carl Hickman, Gemma Storey and Julia Wright, will be based at Unit 30 within Thurnscoe Business Centre, Thurnscoe. The role of the Community health worker is to contribute to tackling inequalities in health through promoting and supporting people to develop healthier behaviours and lifestyles in the context of their own local communities. They are able to offer free confidential guidance and support for 16+, one-to-one meetings with clients, provide information about healthy living and if needed would accompany clients to new places and groups for a wide range of health related issues. The health trainers will be getting a page of there own soon with all the contact numbers and details, so watch this space. if you want help and support then contact them on 01709 894231. |

Small grants and wellbeing grants are still available through the Dearne Area Forum! The Dearne Area Forum Grants Fund is open to local community groups. Small grants of upto £200 are available for group set up and/or group development, community projects and initiatives that offer practical solutions to local issues. Wellbeing grants are available for activities that will make the area better and enhance the wellbeing of the local people. There are no limits to well being grants.
